FiveCo cultivates wine and secrets

Innovation — Excellence, authenticity, fine craftsmanship, and Swiss made are the values championed by Lausanne-based engineering firm FiveCo.

Founded in 2002 by five microtechnology graduates from EPFL, the SME today works across three areas: micromechanics, embedded electronics, and computing, applied to the medical, industrial, and watchmaking sectors. While most of its projects remain confidential, some have already achieved a degree of fame — among them the Raptor retractable display stands and the Explorer system, both developed in collaboration with Dietlin exclusively for Hublot. In 2009, the young entrepreneurs launched Mémoire du Vin, an intelligent solid oak monolith designed to manage precious bottles. "It is an intuitive tool, indispensable for fine wine enthusiasts who want to know exactly what they have in their cellar and what it is worth," explains Antoine Lorotte, one of the founders. Since its launch, eleven units have found buyers.

And with no intention of resting on their laurels, the company has recently registered the furniture brand "Art of secret". Its ambition: to create one-off or limited-edition pieces of the highest craftsmanship, featuring a secret drawer accessible via fingerprint. Following a bedside table, an executive desk will soon be unveiled.

This year, the SME celebrates its tenth anniversary. To mark the occasion, it is aiming to develop further projects and is looking for distributors to promote its exceptional objects. A word to the wise!
